The Sri Lanka Air Force says a Corporal attached to the Batticaloa camp had staged the attack on himself which was reported in the Valachchenai area yesterday.

Initially, images were shared on social media, stating that an Air Force officer had been abducted, stripped, and assaulted by a group last morning.

It was also reported that he was stripped of his civil attire and was tied to a tree after which he was rescued by the Police based on information by area residents.

A placard written in Tamil, stating “This is how you kill those who assist corrupt politicians” was also found close to where the officer had been rescued.

The Sri Lanka Air Force said investigations have revealed that the officer staged the incident as he is addicted to gambling and had borrowed money from his fellow Air Force officers.

However, as he was unable to return the money he had initially thought of dying by suicide, but as such a death will result in the Air Force halting salary payments to his family, he had staged the abduction and assault.

The Corporal who was admitted to the Valachchenai hospital has been arrested by the Valachchenai Police and will be produced before the Valachchenai Magistrate’s Court. (NewsWire)
