Property damage and other incidents related to the Parliament cannot be dealt with under the regular law of the country, Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said today.

Speaking to the media, he said the matter could only be addressed within Parliament and that it cannot be even questioned by the courts.

Stating that any incident in Parliament is reported to the relevant Parliament authorities by the Speaker, Minister Gunawardena said that an inquiry will thereafter be conducted by the Parliament.

“If an inquiry has not been conducted in connection to such incidents, then questions in this regard will have to be made from the Speaker,” he added.

The minister made the comments in response to a question raised by a journalist on the crackdown on protesters for destroying public property during anti-government protests, at a time when MPs who damaged Parliament property under the former government are yet to be apprehended. (NewsWire)
