Fertilizer importers have announced a significant reduction in the price of Urea fertilizer in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, a 50 kg bag of Urea fertilizer will be reduced by Rs. 10,000 and the new price will be Rs. 29,000.
Fertilizer importers said a 50 kg bag of fertilizer used for Tea will be reduced approximately by Rs. 1,000.
They added that the price reduction will come into effect from tomorrow, the 21st of September 2022.
Meanwhile, the Department of Agrarian Development says it will commence disbursing necessary urea fertilizer to farmers for the Maha season from the 1st of October.
Commissioner General AHML Aberathna said farmers will be given the urea fertilizer stocks obtained through the Indian credit line and a farmer will receive 20 kg of urea fertilizer per hectare under the first phase.
Aberathna further said that the fertilizer stocks will be first distributed among farmers in the Kurunegala, Ampara, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Jaffna districts. (NewsWire)
