The report circulated on media of a student consuming coconut kernels for lunch due to poverty has been found to be untrue, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said today.
It was reported that a student from the Minuwangoda area had consumed coconut kernels for lunch due to the lack of finances to purchase food.
The PMD said upon inquiries conducted by the relevant education and district officials, it was found that no such incident had taken place.
However, a special program has been initiated on the directives of the President to assist any child/family facing a food shortage due to the current economic crisis.
