Former President Maithripala Sirisena filed a Writ Application at the Court of Appeal pertaining to a court order on a case related to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The Writ Application has been filed seeking an order to suspend the notice issued by the Fort Magistrate’s Court naming him a suspect in the Easter attacks case.

On 16 September, the Fort Magistrate’s Court issued a notice to the former President to appear in court pertaining to the Easter attacks case.

Naming the former President a suspect in the case, the Fort Magistrate’s Court ordered Maithripala Sirisena to appear in court on 14th October 2022.

The notice was issued after the court considered a private plaint requesting the court to name Sirisena as an accused of the Easter attacks on charges of failing to prevent the attacks.

The private plaint was filed by a member of the National Catholic Committee for Justice to Easter Sunday Attack Victims Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando. (NewsWire)
