The Medical Professionals Sri Lanka for System Change has condemned the actions of Police officers during a recent public gathering at the Galle Face Green in Colombo on 09th October 2022.
Issuing a statement, the group of medical professionals in Sri Lanka said that the inhuman manner of crowd handling by certain Police officers violates the fundamental rights of our citizens, including children.
The group has urged the President and the Government to conduct an immediate and impartial investigation and take action against the police personnel who behaved in this unlawful and unacceptable manner as well as against those who issued the orders that enabled them to act with impunity.
Additionally, the medical professionals also strongly recommended that all Police personnel are provided clear and up-to-date training regarding psychological and ethical aspects of their behavior both in the short term and long term, which can cause sometimes irreversible consequences to themselves and society.
