A disciplinary inquiry has been launched against the Police Sub- Inspector (SI) who has been remanded over the shooting incident involving a 15-year-old boy in the Thihagoda area in Matara.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that a comprehensive investigation is underway by a team headed by an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP).
He further said investigations have revealed that the group of youth aged between 14 and 15 years had been travelling in the three-wheeler at the time of the incident.
Stating that it has been found that the teenagers had driven the vehicle without a valid driving licence, the Police spokesman said, as a result, the group had attempted to flee when being inspected by the Police officers.
The 15-year-old boy who was injured after the firearm of the Police SI had allegedly accidentally discharged on Friday (28) is currently undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital. (NewsWire)
