Sri Lanka cricketer Chamika Karunaratne has been omitted from the Afghan ODI series due to non-performance, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Mohan de Silva said today (17).

Mohan de Silva further clarified that the cricketer has not been left out due to a disciplinary issue.

His comments come as speculations have been rife that Chamika Karunaratne had been dropped due to disciplinary issues.

Although his form in the T20I World Cup was a concern, Chamika Karunarathne won two man-of-the-match performances when Sri Lanka last played an ODI series against Australia in June.

The Afghanistan National Team will arrive in Sri Lanka later this month to play an ODI series, under the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League 2023.

The tour, which was initially scheduled to be played in February 2023, was shifted to the new schedule as the international cricket calendars of the two nations enabled the change.

The Afghanistan National Team will arrive in Sri Lanka on Tuesday, 22nd November 2022.

The probable Sri Lankan squad for the Afghanistan ODI series is as follows:

Dasun Shanaka (Capt), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Dananjaya Lakshan, Kasun Rajitha, Lahiru Kumara, Pramod Madushan and Asitha Fernando. (NewsWire)
