Budget 2023 passed with 123 votes

The third reading of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2023 was passed with amendments and a majority of 43 votes in Parliament today (08).

123 Parliamentarians voted in favour of the Bill, while 80 MPs voted against, and 02 MPs abstained from voting. 

Opposition MPs including Sajith Premadasa, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Sarath Fonseka, Rishad Bathiudeen, Mano Ganesan, and G.L Peiris voted against the Appropriation Bill.

Tamil Makkal Thesiya Kuttani (TMTK) Leader MP C.V.Wigneswaran and MP Velu Kumar abstained from voting.

President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, presented the Appropriation Bill for the year 2023 to Parliament on 14th November 2022.

The 2023 budget is reportedly aimed at establishing long-term and stable economic growth.

The 2023 budget has given special attention to the sectors of the capital market, export market, labour market, and digital economy and it is expected to achieve the budget targets through the social market economy. (NewsWire)
