Three more individuals have been arrested in connection to the human organ racket that was uncovered at a private hospital in Borella last year.
The Police stated that investigations had been launched into the racket following a number of complaints filed at the Borella Police Station.
The CCD launched investigations into the human organ racket after 04 men and a woman who had fallen victim to the racket had filed complaints at the Borella Police station last year.
It was uncovered that the racket had targeted individuals from poverty-stricken families, mainly to obtain kidneys, and had not settled the agreed payment following the operations.
The CCD yesterday (16) arrested a 32-year-old resident of Colombo 13 considered to be a key broker in the racket. The suspect was arrested at Armour Street.
Meanwhile, two Grama Sevaka officers attached to the Kollonawa and Sri Jayawardenpura Kotte Divisional Secretary areas have also been arrested on charges of having aided the brokers by providing fake documents.
The two officers are aged 59 years and are residents of Kaduwela and Rajagiriya. The CCD is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
