Police reveal more details on Battaramulla businessman’s death

The main suspects linked to the murder of the Battaramulla businessman have fled the country, Ada Derena reported. 

According to reports, the man and a woman who drove the deceased’s vehicle to a garage in Negombo are suspected to have left the Island following his death. 

Preliminary investigations have revealed that four credit cards belonging to the businessman were reported missing from his wallet and that the credit cards had been used to purchase five air tickets to travel via Indonesia.

Police investigations also stated that the credit cards had been used to buy goods worth Rs. 500,000 at the Katunayake airport.

The Police also suspect that a woman may have been involved in the murder and she may have been at the Pelawatte house with the businessman during which with the help of other individuals may have carried out the murder.

The body of the 49-year-old businessman was recovered from a swimming pool in a 3-storey belonging to him in Pelawatte, Battaramulla yesterday (01). 

The Police suspect he may have been murdered as several blood stains had been found around the swimming pool. 

Preliminary Police investigations reveal that the businessman may have been attacked on the head after being dragged and placed in the swimming pool.

The victim is reported to have resided in Kiththampahuwa, Wellampitiya due to this house being under construction and is said to have gone missing since 30th January.

The investigations revealed that the victim’s sister had filed a complaint with the Wellampitiya Police after she could not reach her brother on the phone that evening despite multiple attempts.

Following suspicion, she and several family members inspected his Pelawatte house where his body was found floating in the swimming pool.

The Police are investigating CCTV footage around the house and inspecting the victim’s phone to obtain more information. (NewsWire)
