An individual resisting arrest has been shot dead by the Police near the Peragas Junction in Wennappuwa today.
The Police stated that the suspect had been shot after he had attacked the Police officers with a sword during a raid to arrest him.
The suspect has been identified as a 52-year-old resident of Wennapuwa and had died upon admission to the hospital.
The Police added that one Police officer had sustained injuries in the sword attack by the suspect.
The Police had conducted a sting operation to apprehend two wanted criminals, when one suspect attacked them with a sword.
The other wanted suspect has been arrested by the Police and the Marawila Police are conducting investigations. (NewsWire)
