On 12 April 2023, the Chairman of the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA), Shantha Niriella, issued a Gazette Extraordinary regarding direct traders and companies involved in network marketing.
According to the communiqué, all direct traders who sell solar lighting systems, phones and accessories, furniture, cleaning agents, shoes, stationery, kitchen utensils and accessories, bed sheets, mattresses, and readymade garments are obligated to register themselves with the CAA.
