Court of Appeal quashes summons issued to SDIG Tennakoon

Two legal proceedings initiated against the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon pertaining to incidents during the 2022 Sri Lanka protests have been quashed by the Court of Appeal. 

The Court of Appeal has quashed the summons issued by the Colombo Fort Magistrate against SDIG Tennakoon as a suspect in the Rs. 17.8 million that was found at the President’s House in Colombo by protesters who had stormed the building during anti-government protests last year. 

The letter issued by the Attorney General naming SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon as a suspect over the attacks on ‘GotaGoGama’ protesters at the Galle Face Green on May 09, 2022, has also been quashed by the Court of Appeal. 

The notices were quashed when the writ petition filed by SDIG Deshabandu Tennakoon was taken up for consideration before Court of Appeal President Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and A. Marikkar today. (NewsWire)
