New iPhone, new charger: Apple bends to EU rules

It is highly likely that Apple’s upcoming iPhone, set to be revealed on September 12th, will incorporate a USB-C charging port, Bloomberg reported.

Presently, Apple utilizes its exclusive Lightning connector, distinguishing itself from competitors like Samsung.

To comply with a European Union regulation aimed at reducing costs for consumers and minimizing electronic waste, phone manufacturers must adopt a standardized charging interface by December 2024.

While most recent Apple devices, including the latest iPads, already employ USB-C, the company had previously contested this EU mandate. (NewsWire)
