Budget 2024 : 2nd reading passed, Govt 122 votes

The second reading of the Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2024 was passed in Parliament with a majority of 45 votes today.

A total of 122 votes were in favour of the Budget 2024, while 77 votes were against, and 25 MPs didn’t attend the voting.

The ruling Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Party (SLPP) voted in favour of the Budget 2024, while the Opposition Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and National Peoples Power (NPP) were among the political parties that voted against it.

The Appropriation Bill for the fiscal year 2024 was presented to the Parliament on November 13 by President Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance. (NewsWire)
