Five more suspects have been arrested in connection to the fraudulent educational institute offering courses required for overseas employment that was operated in Bambalapitiya.

The Police had initially arrested a 24-year-old woman who was the Director of the institution following a raid conducted in late November. Investigations were launched to apprehend a 25-year-old man from Mattakkuliya, who had also operated as a Director of the institute.

The institute known as ‘Evolve College of Education’ was operated from Lauries’ Road, Bambalapitiya.

The Police said five more suspects were arrested after they had surrendered to the Bambalapitiya Police yesterday following investigations conducted on those who had aided the operations of the institute by financially scamming students by providing false information.

The suspects arrested yesterday are aged between 23 and 26 years and are residents of Puwakpitiya, Pallewala, Dematagoda, Polonnaruwa, and Mathugama.

The Police said the suspects have been released on sureties of Rs. 100, 000 each after being produced before the Hulftsdopr Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

The arrests come after the Police raided the institute which was found to be providing fake diplomas and higher diplomas required for overseas employment.

The female Director of the institute is reported to have attracted students from various parts of the country, conducted online classes, and provided fake diplomas following the conclusion of the course.

Despite conducting the institution without following proper local or international standards, the suspect had charged between Rs. 100,000 to Rs. 445,000 for the degrees.

The Police said a total of 43 complaints have been received against the female Director and the institution, while over 1000 people are reported to have gotten caught in the scam. (NewsWire)
