The opening race for the RTC Nuwara Eliya Tourism race day, a card of 5 races were lined up with the main event for the day Nuwara Eliya Tourism race day trophy. The first race for the day was for horses rated 00-20 with 4 horse competing. As ZULU FANTASY woned by Mrs. Dagmar Woehrl and trained by S.D. Mahesh is in great form after its 2nd on the opening day, led the field from the gates to winning post making a easy ride for Jockey Akash Agarwal who opened his account at the Nuwara Eliya race club. Jockey L. Ravi Kumar gave STORMONT a horrific ride, travelled wide and towards the rear of the field to finish a good 2nd. The daughter of Samarinda KRABI ridden by jockey P.S. Kaviraj was very hopeful to be winning but had to settle for 3rd place. NAGADA who was imported from India by a new owner Dr Kushan Harsha Pathirana ran first time on a left handed track and could only manage to complete the board.
The second race of the day was for horses 40-60 running over a mile with a small field of 4 runners with LEGENDRY PRINCESS running start to finish for a impressive win, after registering a good second in its last outing was this time guided by Mumbai based jockey P.S. Kaviraj riding a perfect race registering a good double for tainers S.D. Mahesh. MEHERAN perfectly ridden by champion jockey of Hyderbad Race Club P. Sai Kumar urged his mount to snap LEGENDARY PRINCESS mission in the final furlong but her lead kept her going and MEHERAN had to settle for 2nd position. SANTOS with Akash Agarwal toiled hard without making any impression though he races abreast of the front runners for a furlong after the start of the race. COSMIC FEELING jumped awkwardly from the gates, unbalancing and upsetting her rider, who absolutely showed no interest in the race.
The third race of the day was a terms race running over a mile with a field of 4 runners. HERE AND NOW was strongly fancied to win after its impressive win on the opening day but showed no initial speed and languished in the rear before warming up to put a strong fight to display a tame third. Trainer Mathialagan’s ward ANOTHER ACE perfectly ridden by Sai Kumar showed a good presence of mind to move away and overhaul from the front runners who were cutting pace each other and ROYAL CRYSTAL from the stables of S.D. Mahesh was the most impressive runner comfortably placed behind the front runners in fourth place and started to improve when the field came into the home stretch displaying a good turn of foot to swoop down on ANOTHER ACE but had to settle up for second place, who found his moorings quite late.
The fourth race of the day was sponsored by Wijaya Newspaper and a race tailored for horses 20-40 with 5 runners facing the starters. BIG TREASURE imported from India had the benefit of run on this Nuwara Eliya track registered its first win aptly ridden by P. Sai Kumar from start to finish mission thereby registering a good double for the combination of owners Mr Hasanga Jayaratne, Paba Jayaratne and trainer S.V. Mathialagan. QUEENS HALL ridden by K. Rajesh was throughout the race chasing the stablemate in vain had to settle for 2nd position. GLITTERING a moody mare had initial traffic problems afterjumping out of the gates and could only manage 3rd position with MYSTIC FLAME filling the berth.
The fifth was reserved to ¾ bred horses sponsored by Edwards Collection confined to local jockeys who were barred to make use of the whip had a field of 4 runners with CROWN FRIED shedding its maiden and winning the race comfortably. NONIS with L. Ravi Kumar made every attempt to upstage the winning flag of CROWN FRIED but failed and had to settle for 2nd position. MAALI who had previously won in her outing ran a disappointing race and settled for 3rd position and TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE filling up the judge’s placing.
