With nominations for the upcoming general election closing at noon on Friday, October 11, the Election Commission has issued guidelines for parties submitting national list candidates.
Under Article 99A of the Constitution, all political parties and independent groups contesting the election must submit a list of qualified national list nominees during the nomination period.
The Commissioner General of Elections in a statement said that the list must appropriately reflect Sri Lanka’s demographics and ensure adequate representation of women.
The Commission also reminded parties that only those listed on the nominations or national list can enter parliament, with no exceptions.
The national list nominees are also required to submit their declarations of assets and liabilities in line with new anti-corruption laws, the Commission said. (Newswire)
