The Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court has ordered the arrest of Jaffna District MP Archchuna Ramanathan on charges of obstructing police duties in the Rambewa area.
Police Media Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manatunga said that legal proceedings have been initiated against the MP. It was reported that the MP’vehicle was equipped with unauthorized VIP lights, and was stopped by traffic officers.
A viral video of the incident shows the MP refusing to cooperate with the officers.
SSP Manatung said, the Anuradhapura Police conducted an investigation and reported the MP’s alleged violations under Sections 183 and 344 of the Penal Code, as well as the Motor Traffic Act, to the Anuradhapura Magistrate’s Court.
The court has ordered the MP’s arrest and directed further investigations into the incident, with progress to be reported on February 3, 2025. (Newswire)
