The Cabinet of Ministers has approved amendments to the Intellectual Property Act No. 36 of 2003, incorporating additional revisions for international trademark and service mark registration.
The decision follows a previous Cabinet approval on February 12, 2020, to align Sri Lanka’s intellectual property laws with the Madrid Protocol under the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
However, the draft bill prepared for these changes has not yet been submitted to Parliament.
Recognizing the need for further revisions, the Cabinet approved a proposal by the Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development to direct the Legal Draftsman to finalize the amendments without delay. (Newswire)
