The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed indictments against former Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena and former Director General of the Board of Investment (BOI), Jayanta Edirisinghe, over the misuse of state funds.
The case pertains to the alleged misuse of over Rs. 17 million from BOI funds to publish advertisements in 11 newspapers marking former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term inauguration anniversary on November 19, 2014.
The Bribery Commission alleges that the act caused a financial loss to the state and violated the Bribery Act.
Five charges have been filed against the accused, with 15 witnesses and 21 documentary items submitted as evidence in the case, which is being heard before the Colombo High Court. (Newswire)
