Since the formation of the new government, 64 projects worth USD 650 million have been approved by the Board of Investment (BOI), with investment proposals valued at USD 3.7 billion currently under feasibility review, Deputy Minister of Industries Chathuranga Abeysinghe said.

In a statement on social media, the Deputy Minister said the government is focused on accelerating industrial investment by streamlining approvals, improving infrastructure, and promoting Sri Lanka’s strategic location to global investors.

As part of these efforts, a delegation of Chinese business representatives visited the Ministry of Industries and Enterprise Development on Wednesday (28 May).

Deputy Minister Abeysinghe said they discussed potential investments in sectors including vehicle assembly, rubber, chemicals, tourism, gems and jewellery, agriculture, and mineral-based industries.

The Chinese delegation also expressed interest in future-focused areas such as AI, robotics, and electronic manufacturing.

Minister Sunil Handunnetti, Ministry Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara, ministry officials, and representatives of affiliated agencies and private sector stakeholders participated in the discussions.

China was represented by Liu Chun (Vice President, CCCME) and Nan Yi (Vice President, CICCPS), among other business leaders.

Deputy Minister Abeysinghe stressed that the ministry is ready to provide full support to ensure that proposed investments are successfully implemented within the two-week exploratory visit by the Chinese delegation. (Newswire)
