A four-member Cabinet Sub-Committee has been appointed to assess and make recommendations on how the situation in the Middle East can impact Sri Lanka.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee is chaired by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath, while Minister of Plantation Samantha Vidyarathne, Minister of Trade Wasantha Samarasinghe, and Minister of Power Kumara Jayakody are the remaining members.
According to the government, the Cabinet of Ministers has drawn its attention to the need for prior preparation regarding challenges that Sri Lanka may encounter in the future due to the ongoing heated military situation in the Middle East region.
As such, the Cabinet of Ministers has appointed the said Cabinet Sub-Committee and also intends to appoint another committee, comprising the secretaries to the ministries, to assist it.
The committees are tasked with closely studying the military situation in the Middle East region, all the fields that may be affected, the extent of the impact, and reviewing the expeditious actions that should be taken in this regard.
Based on the findings, the committees are expected to submit appropriate recommendations to the Cabinet of Ministers. (Newswire)
