The Ambassador of Iran to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkhosh, paid a courtesy call on Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Arun Hemachandra, today, during which a discussion was held on the ongoing tensions in the region.

Revealing details of the discussion, Deputy Minister Hemachandra said that the Iranian Ambassador briefed him on the latest developments, adding, “I acknowledged the announcement of a ceasefire as a welcome step towards de-escalation.”

“I underscored the urgent need for sustained diplomatic engagement to ensure peace and long-term stability. This is no longer a matter confined to a single region; its ripple effects are global, with implications for countries like Sri Lanka as well,” he said.

Deputy Minister Hemachandra further said that he expressed his gratitude to the Government of Iran for its support in facilitating the safe relocation of the Sri Lankan Embassy and the safe migration of Sri Lankan citizens during this period.

“I also took the opportunity to thank Iran for its continued cooperation with Sri Lanka, from multilateral forums to development partnerships, especially during the economic crisis situation, which has contributed to strengthening our longstanding bilateral relationship,” he added. (Newswire)
