Two-time Twenty20 World Cup winner and all-rounder Andre Russell is set to retire from international cricket, West Indies Cricket confirmed on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old was named in the Windies’ T20I squad for the Australia series, but the opening two games at Sabina Park in Jamaica—his home ground—will be Russell’s last in the maroon kit.
Russell, who made his T20I debut in 2011 against Pakistan, has been exclusively playing the shortest format since 2019. In 84 T20I matches, Russell has scored 1078 runs at a whopping strike-rate of 163.08. He has also taken 61 wickets with the ball in hand.
Russell also represents franchises across 12 T20 leagues, namely the Indian Premier League, Big Bash League, and the Hundred, among others.
Although he was a part of the West Indies’ T20 World Cup-winning squads in 2012 and 2016, he will now understandably not be featuring in the February 2026 edition, which is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka and India. (Sports Star)
