A special impact assessment forum convened by the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) on Friday (19), brought together 36 participants from 26 BOI‑registered enterprises to address the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

According to a BOI statement, held at the BOI Auditorium, the forum provided a platform for affected industries to share firsthand accounts of damages to property, machinery, equipment, and infrastructure, while exploring immediate support options for recovery.

The discussions marked a major milestone in shaping effective recovery strategies, identifying relief measures, and strengthening collaboration between the BOI and other government agencies.

BOI Chairman Arjuna Herath and Director General Renuka M. Weerakoon assured participants that the institution would do everything within its mandate to help enterprises overcome setbacks, restore operations, and resume production and exports.

Cyclone Ditwah has left Sri Lanka grappling with unprecedented economic disruption, severely impacting industrial operations, supply chains, and export activities.

In response, the BOI has launched a comprehensive evaluation of the support required by affected enterprises, beginning with detailed data collection to assess the scope of losses.

To further assist recovery, the BOI will establish a 24/7 support unit at its Investor Services Department to expedite import/export approvals and manage damaged goods.

The Chairman also confirmed that discussions with the Ministry of Finance are underway to secure appropriate policies, financial assistance, and inter‑agency cooperation to ensure the speedy recovery and long‑term resilience of BOI‑registered businesses. (Newswire)
