
Showers are expected at times in Eastern and Uva provinces and in the Matale and Nuwara-Eliya districts, with fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 mm likely in parts of Uva Province and in, Batticaloa and Ampara districts, the Department of Meteorology said.
Several spells of showers are also forecast in Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Hambantota district. Showers or thundershowers are also likely in other areas of the island after 2 p.m.
Misty conditions are expected in the early morning in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, as well as in Galle, Matara and Anuradhapura districts.
The public is advised to take precautions against localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
The Met Department said Showers or thundershowers are likely in sea areas from Hambantota to Trincomalee via Batticaloa. Winds will be north-easterly at 30-40 kmph, increasing to 45-50 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kalutara to Mannar via Colombo and Puttalam, and from Hambantota to Batticaloa via Pottuvil.
Sea conditions will be fairly rough at times in those areas and moderate elsewhere. Temporary strong gusty winds and very rough seas are possible during thundershowers. (Newswire)
