A person has been arrested by Sri Lanka Customs officers at the airport for attempting to illegally bring a large sum of foreign currency into the country.
The suspect arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (02) on IndiGo Airlines flight 6E-1183 from Bangalore, India.
The arrested individual is a 48-year-old businessman residing in the Akurana area of Kandy.
Customs officers discovered the foreign currency concealed among novels inside his luggage as well as on his person. The seized currency included EUR 48,900, USD 14,000 and INR 26,650.
According to reports, the total value of the seized foreign currency amounts to Rs. 24,900,748.
Sri Lanka Customs officers have taken the suspect into custody and are conducting further investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
