The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has uncovered a large-scale fake medicine racket that allegedly used the name and logo of the state-run Ayurveda Drugs Corporation to mislead consumers.
The raid was carried out on Friday (March 26) in the Hingula area of Mawanella, following a complaint lodged by the Ayurveda Drugs Corporation.
During the operation, officials found that the suspects had fraudulently used the corporation’s name and state emblem to market and sell counterfeit products as genuine Ayurveda Drugs Corporation medicines.
The CAA said the operation posed risks to public health while also damaging the reputation of the state institution.
Legal action is currently being initiated against those involved, the Consumer Affairs Authority said. (Newswire)
