The first phase of refurbishment work at the Colombo Central Bus Terminal is nearing completion, with authorities aiming to hand over the upgraded facilities to the public ahead of the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

The project is being implemented under the Clean Sri Lanka programme, with the objective of creating a cleaner, more modern and passenger-friendly public transport environment.

Under the first phase, several improvements have been carried out, including the renovation of existing buildings, the establishment of a new information centre, and the upgrading of sanitary facilities.

In addition, a designated external bus queue area has been developed, while landscaping and surrounding environment enhancements have also been completed.

These upgrades are intended to improve convenience and overall travel experience for commuters, particularly during the upcoming festive season when passenger traffic is expected to increase. (NewsWire)
