The United States and Iran have agreed to a conditional two-week ceasefire, with Tehran allowing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz if attacks against Iran are halted.
US President Donald Trump said he would suspend military operations for two weeks, provided Iran agrees to the “complete, immediate and safe” reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, following mediation efforts led by Pakistan.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi later confirmed that Iran would halt its operations if attacks stop, adding that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz would be allowed for two weeks under coordination with Iran’s armed forces.
The agreement marks the most significant de-escalation in weeks of escalating tensions, with Pakistan inviting both sides for talks in Islamabad during the ceasefire period. (Newswire)
