LPL player draft on June 1st : Five key updates

Sri Lanka Cricket has announced that the player draft for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2026 will be held on June 1, with more than 650 overseas cricketers registering for the tournament.

More than 650 overseas players have signed up for the sixth edition of the LPL, highlighting strong international interest in the tournament.

  1. Players from 21 cricketing nations

According to the organisers, registrations have been received from players representing 21 cricket-playing nations, including ICC Full Member and Associate Member countries.

  1. Pakistan leads registrations

Pakistan recorded the highest number of registrations with 102 players. They were followed by the West Indies (75), South Africa (66), Bangladesh (48), New Zealand (41), Australia (24), England (15), and India (12).

  1. Only 310 players to be shortlisted

Despite the large number of registrations, only 310 players will make the final shortlist for the official LPL 2026 player draft after a screening process.

  1. Tournament dates confirmed

The Lanka Premier League 2026 is scheduled to be played from July 17 to August 8, with the tournament continuing as Sri Lanka’s flagship domestic T20 competition featuring international players. (Newswire)
