The National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has introduced a promotional examination for its employees, creating opportunities for more than 1,000 staff members to secure grade promotions within their respective salary categories.
According to the NHDA, the program has been introduced for the first time in the authority’s history.
The examination will benefit employees ranging from the primary salary category up to the HM 1-3 salary scale, enabling them to advance within the positions they currently hold.
Officials noted that no such promotional examination had been conducted for authority employees under previous governments, describing the initiative as a significant step taken by the present administration toward strengthening human resource development within the institution.
The authority stated that the programme is also expected to improve employee motivation and efficiency.
Meanwhile, a considerable number of efficiency bar interviews relevant to several salary categories have already been completed. Preparations are also underway to conduct efficiency bar examinations for positions ranging from the MA 1-2 salary category to the MM 1-3 salary category, the authority said.
In addition, several measures have been introduced to enhance the performance and motivation of technical officers serving at the head office and district offices.
These include the payment of a composite allowance for up to 10 days when officers perform duties within their respective technical fields, a telephone allowance of Rs. 1,875, and a fuel allowance of Rs. 10 per kilometre in line with Public Administration Circular 10/2026 issued on April 9, 2026, by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.
The NHDA said these measures have helped address long-standing concerns among technical officers regarding promotions and allowances.
Furthermore, under Public Administration Circular 11/2026, steps are being taken to confirm the appointments of daily-paid and contract-based employees serving at the NHDA. Plans are also in place to fill several essential vacancies within the authority in the future. (Newswire)
