West Indies got off to a winning start in the T20 tournament played in the Caribbean, beating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the 1st T20I played in Kingston.
Winning the toss and batting first, Sri Lanka briefly threatened to post a good total, with openers Nissanka and Mendis looking good in the powerplay.
However, losing wickets regularly, the visitors were restricted to a below-par 147 for 9, a total made possible thanks to a half-century by Kamindu Mendis, who came in at No. 5.
West Indies did not look troubled in the chase as captain Shai Hope compiled a composed 65* (54) to see the home side through in the final over. (Newswire)
