A high‑level Sri Lankan delegation, led by Special Envoy of the President and Chief Advisor on Digital Economy, Dr. Hans Wijayasuriya, actively participated in the United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance, held July 6–7 at the Palexpo complex in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Global Dialogue, established under UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/79/325, is the world’s first universal UN‑led platform dedicated to fostering international cooperation on artificial intelligence. The opening session featured keynote addresses by UN Secretary‑General António Guterres and President of the General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, underscoring the urgency of building a fair and secure global digital order.

Reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to digital equity and inclusive governance, the Sri Lankan delegation emphasized the nation’s readiness to contribute to shaping international frameworks for AI.

The delegation included Ambassador Sumith Dassanayake, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the UN in Geneva, Air Vice Marshal (Retd.) Bandula Herath, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL), and senior officials from the Permanent Mission.

Beyond the Global Dialogue, the Sri Lankan team engaged strategically across related events from July 6–10, including the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum and the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, ensuring Sri Lanka’s voice was represented in global deliberations on digital transformation.
