The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber advisory for strong winds affecting the Northern, North Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as the Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The advisory, issued by the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre, is valid until 11.30 a.m. on August 2.
The Department said strong winds of around 40-50 kmph can be expected at times in the affected areas due to active south-west monsoonal conditions.
The public has been advised to be cautious of hazards caused by damaged roofs, fallen trees and power lines, remain vigilant regarding possible severe weather conditions, and follow future advisories issued by the Department of Meteorology. (Newswire)
