Police have launched an investigation to arrest a suspect accused of stealing items from a prominent hotel in Colombo after posing as a private bank officer.
According to police, the suspect visited a well-known hotel in the Kompannavidiya Police area on Aug. 3 and introduced himself in a friendly manner as an officer attached to a private bank.
He informed hotel staff that a group would be arriving for a dinner function and placed a large order for food and beverages.
Police said the suspect allegedly took advantage of hotel staff being occupied with preparations to steal several items from the hotel before fleeing.
Investigations by Kompannavidiya Police have revealed that the suspect is also believed to have carried out similar thefts in the Cinnamon Gardens, Peliyagoda and Nugegoda police areas.
Police have released a photograph of the suspect and are seeking public assistance to locate and arrest him.
