A motorist has highlighted concerns over what he described as a lack of awareness among some police officers regarding the green number plates issued for electric vehicles in Sri Lanka.
In a post shared on social media, the motorist said he was stopped by police in Weliweriya and questioned over the green number plate displayed on his electric vehicle.
According to the user, officers initially appeared unaware that green number plates were being issued for electric vehicles and questioned whether the plate was legitimate.
He said the number plate had been officially issued and that he was eventually able to show a message relating to the collection of the plate as supporting evidence.
The motorist said he did not blame the police officers, but called for relevant authorities to ensure police stations are properly informed about changes relating to vehicle registration and number plates.
He said wider awareness could help prevent similar inconvenience to other electric vehicle owners. (Newswire)
