New Chinese envoy meets Mahinda, discusses SLPP–CPC cooperation

New Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Wei Huaxiang has met former President Mahinda Rajapaksa at his residence for discussions on Sri Lanka–China relations.

Rajapaksa said the meeting focused on further strengthening bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China, as well as cooperation between the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Communist Party of China (CPC).

“Pleased to receive H.E. Wei Huaxiang, the new Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, at my residence,” Rajapaksa said in a social media post.

He said he also appreciated remarks made by the new ambassador regarding the strong friendship between Sri Lanka and China during his presidency.

Wei Huaxiang recently assumed duties as China’s new Ambassador to Sri Lanka. (Newswire)
