The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to publish the new Sri Lanka Cricket Bill in the Government Gazette before presenting it to Parliament for approval.
The proposed legislation seeks to establish a legal framework for the governance, regulation, promotion, development and administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.
Cabinet approval was initially granted on June 8, 2026, to draft legislation aimed at restructuring Sri Lanka Cricket.
The Legal Draftsman has since prepared the Bill, which has also received observations from the Attorney General.
According to the government, the proposed legislation seeks to promote good governance, integrity, transparency, accountability, inclusivity and equal opportunities in cricket.
It also aims to protect the welfare of all participants and safeguard the sport against corruption and other improper practices.
The Bill will establish legal provisions governing the incorporation, powers and functions of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports to publish the Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently submit it to Parliament for approval. (Newswire)
