The Peterite Cricket League (PCL) is set to return after a 13-year break, with an eight-team franchise cricket tournament scheduled for November 7 and 8 at the St. Peter’s College grounds in Colombo.

First launched in 2011, the tournament was last held in 2013 and will now make its comeback under the leadership of the Peterite Cricket Foundation, bringing together former and current Peterite cricketers.

The competition will feature eight franchises: Thambapanni Lions, Resistance Panthers, Bamba Patriots, Colombo Sports Hub, Top Knock Titans, Colombo Tuskers, Foundation Guardians and UK Peterites.

Matches will be played in a six-over format, with eight players per team.

Each franchise will include players from four age categories: current schoolboys, those aged 20–30, players aged 30–40 and those over 40.

Organisers said the format is designed to bring different generations of Peterite cricketers together while promoting the development of cricket at the junior level.

The winning team will receive the Rev. Sunil Herman Perera Memorial Champions Trophy, while the runners-up will be awarded the Mr. Austin Fernando Memorial Shield.

The tournament is being organised under the leadership of Peterite Cricket Foundation President Hans Fernando and PCL Committee Chairman Lakshan Rodrigo.

The British School of Commerce, Colombo, has come forward as the main sponsor, with Dubai-based Steadfast Cargo Services LLC serving as the silver sponsor.

Rochelle Vanderwall, Head of Operations at the British School of Commerce, Colombo, said the institution was offering scholarship opportunities for deserving students who have demonstrated academic excellence and achievements in extracurricular activities.

She said the institution had also introduced new academic programmes, including a BBM degree and Qualifications Scotland Foundation and HND programmes leading to a degree from the University of Suffolk in the United Kingdom.

The tournament will also be supported by ThePapare as its official broadcasting partner, Hemas Hospitals as its medical partner, Ada Derana Sports as its media partner and CricWire as its online news partner, alongside several other partners.

Organisers said the return of the league forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen cricket at St. Peter’s College, nurture emerging talent and maintain connections between generations of Peterite cricketers. (Newswire)
