The suspected gunman in the murder of political activist Dan Priyasad was arrested in Ranwala, Kegalle has been arrested, along with two others, including a woman.
Priyasad, the convenor of the Nawa Sinhale National Movement, was shot on April 22 at the Laksanda Sevana Housing Complex in Wellampitiya. He was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with gunshot wounds but died shortly after.
Lankadeepa newspaper reported that the suspects were arrested at a rented house in Ranwala, where officers also seized 12,400 illegal cigarettes, five elephant pearls, and narcotics. Investigators had also recovered a forged national identity card.
The two male suspects, aged 55 and 39, are residents of Kegalle and Weli Oya. One of them is a former army officer who allegedly failed to legally retire from service.
He is believed to be the gunman in the Priyasad killing and is also wanted as the main suspect in a separate attempted murder case involving a firearm in Mahabage, the report said. (Newswire)
