The Inland Revenue Department (IRD) has recorded the highest tax revenue collection in its history for the year 2025, reaching Rs. 2,002,241 million as of 17 November.
According to the statement issued by Commissioner General Rukdevi P. H. Fernando, the 2025 collection reflects an increase of Rs. 60,079 million compared to the total revenue reported in 2024. The IRD noted that it has surpassed the previous year’s figure of Rs. 1,942,162 million within the first eleven months of the year.
The Department said the performance strengthens the Government’s financial position and marks a significant milestone in national revenue mobilisation.
Fernando expressed appreciation to taxpayers who have met their obligations under existing tax laws and acknowledged the support of officials from state and private institutions whose cooperation contributed to the achievement. (Newswire)
