Seven fatal road accidents have been reported in various parts of Sri Lanka on Thursday (16), resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, according to the Police Media Division.
A 52-year-old man from Padukka died after his motorcycle collided with a lorry in the Madampe area. The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the accident.
Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man from Ellappiddy was killed in a bus-motorcycle crash in Kayts. The driver of the bus has been arrested.
In Habaraduwa, a 50-year-old female pedestrian was fatally injured when a motorcycle hit her on the Hadivatta–Giniga Road. The rider and passenger were hospitalized.
Another fatal collision occurred in Medawachchiya, where a 22-year-old motorcyclist died and his pillion rider was critically injured after being struck by a bowser. The driver of the bowser has been arrested in connection with the accident.
In Gampaha, a 59-year-old man died after his motorcycle was hit by a tipper truck while attempting to overtake in Udungampola. The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested.
Meanwhile, in Kadawatha, a 24-year-old motorcyclist was killed when his bike crashed into a van and a prime mover at Kirillawala. The drivers of the van and prime mover have been arrested.
Two women, aged 31 and 85, from Chunnakam, died in Thambuttegama when the driver of the van they were travelling in lost control and crashed into a tree and a utility post. Three men and the driver of the van have also sustained injuries in the accident.
Police said investigations are ongoing in each case, and drivers involved in the accidents have been arrested. (Newswire)
