Police have revealed that an organized crime figure who was murdered in Middeniya earlier this year had been in a vehicle that pursued rugby player Wasim Thajudeen before his death in 2012.

Acting Police Media Spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa said the man, identified as Anura Vidanagamage, widely known as “Middeniya Kajja,” was recognized by his widow in connection with the case.

According to police, Kajja was in a vehicle that followed the car carrying Thajudeen shortly before the rugby player’s death under suspicious circumstances in Colombo. Thajudeen, a former Sri Lanka national player, was found dead in his car in May 2012, with initial reports citing an accident. The case was later treated as a homicide after further investigations.

Vidanagamage, who was allegedly linked to organized criminal activity, was shot dead in Middeniya earlier this month. His role in the Thajudeen case has now surfaced as part of ongoing inquiries into both the underworld and unresolved high-profile killings.

Police said further investigations are underway. (Newswire)
