Fifteen people, including six men and nine women, have died after a bus carrying employees of the Tangalle Municipal Council plunged down a precipice near the 24th km post on the Ella-Wellawaya main road last evening, police said.
At least 18 others, among them children, were injured in the crash. Police said the injured included 11 men and seven women, who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
The bus had been on an excursion when it veered off the road and toppled into a ravine. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident. (Newswire)
