Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa says he and his wife Shiranthi recently watched the film “Clarence: Rhythm of the Guitar,” and felt as if they were living with Clarence Wijewardena once again for a few hours.
Rajapaksa recalled Clarence as a contemporary whose unique identity in music could be recognized instantly, noting that his simple guitar-based creations and melodies won the hearts of generations. He also remembered Clarence’s humility, recalling how he always made time to talk and inquire about others even at the height of his fame.
Reflecting on Clarence’s entry into cinema through H.D. Premaratne’s “Sikuruliya,” Rajapaksa said his memory was reignited by the film, which was directed by the late Teja Iddamalgoda and featured performances by Damith Wijetunga and Saranga Dissasekara.
Extending his best wishes to all who contributed, Rajapaksa also remembered Clarence’s wife, daughter, and the legendary “Three Sisters” group. The screening initiative was led by SLPP Colombo District Organizer Madushan Harindra. (Newswire)
