Australia faces a late change ahead of their opening ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 match against Ireland.
Mitchell Marsh, who was set to lead the team, will miss the game after sustaining a direct blow to the groin during training earlier this week.
The injury has caused internal testicular bleeding, and Marsh will require rest and rehabilitation before returning to the field
Reacting to the injury standby player Steve Smith, who last featured in T20Is in February 2024 but remains a mainstay in Australia’s Test side, has been called in to travel to Sri Lanka. Smith will acclimatize and be ready to step in if needed.
