Aviation and Investment Zone Development State Minister D.V. Chanaka as well as Matara district MP and Chairman Matara District development committee, Nipuna Ranawaka have been appointed as chairman and secretary to the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna youth wing.
The Youth wing was formed in 2015 under the political vision of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa with the support and strength of Basil Rajapaksa with the intention of forming a modernist political party, comprising of educated, active and patriotic youth from across the country, SLPP said in a statement.
In the first election faced by the youth front, the activists took young party politics to a new level by fielding a record number of young candidates for the local government elections, the statement further added.
Today, the Youth Front represents the largest number of young parliamentarians in Sri Lanka. It also has a number of cabinet and state ministerial posts. The organization has been empowered to a level unmatched by any other political organization based on the party leadership’s belief in youth, giving them a wide range of duties, including secretaries, chairmanship and directors of government bodies, the statement said.
